
National Girls & Women in Sports Day is Saturday as Tulsa Hosts Temple

Tulsa to recognize Alicia Conner-Todd as NGWSD Honoree
TULSA, Okla. –– The Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) at The University of Tulsa is scheduled for this Saturday, February 12, as the Golden Hurricane women's basketball team hosts the Temple Owls in a 1:00 p.m. game at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

NGWSD is an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress exhibited by women in sports.
Each year, TU celebrates the extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports. Tulsa recognizes a female with local ties who has been influential for her support of or involvement in sports. Alicia Conner-Todd is this year's recipient of the NGWSD recognition by Tulsa. Conner-Todd played on the women's basketball teams in the late 1970's at Tulsa. She is a lifetime member of Tulsa's Letterwinner's Association and a member of Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and the Alumni Association.
Conner-Todd graduated from TU with a degree in nursing sciences and a master's degree in nursing education and administration. She currently serves as the regional director of business and clinical development for Villages at Southern Hills and Tulsa Nursing Center, Stonegate's Senior Living.
Past recipients include Emily Barkley, Union HS athletic director; Aimee Creger, Tulsa All-America softball pitcher; Becky Dixon, sports broadcasting pioneer; Jan Drummond, TU professor; Pat Hardin, strong supporter of TU athletics and women's sports; Marjorie Lewis, sportswriter; Dale McNamara, Tulsa's legendary women's golf coach, Crista Troester, Tulsa's executive senior associate athletic director/SWA.
Throughout the game, Tulsa will also recognize other women who have helped make an impact in women's sports. An exclusive NGWSD poster and TU women's basketball poster signed by Head Coach Angie Nelp will be available for fans. At halftime, fans will be entertained with an exhibition game by players from the Tulsa Area Senior Women's Basketball League.
Coach Nelp will close out the activities following the game by addressing fans about the importance of women in sports.
