Conway, S.C. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team will face Loyola Chicago in the quarterfinal round of the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Thursday evening at the HTC Center.

Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. (CT) and the game will air on ESPN+, with Charlie Kempf bringing fans the action and King McLure providing the color commentary. Bob Stevens and JR Rollo will broadcast the radio call on Big Country 99.5 FM.

This is Tulsa's second trip to Myrtle Beach for a midseason tournament. In 2017, a tropical storm caused the Puerto Rico Tip-Off to move to Conway, S.C. The Hurricane finished 1-2 with an opening win against Western Michigan before a close loss to Iowa State and Illinois State.

Loyola and Tulsa tout storied histories, yet Thursday marks just the third meeting between the two programs. The Ramblers lead the all-time series 2-0 with a win at home in 1948 and a neutral site game at Chicago Stadium in 1965.

Tulsa enters the invitational with a 1-1 record after a home-opening win against Jackson State on Saturday. Tim Dalger and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson had career days to lead Tulsa. Embery-Simpson paced Tulsa with a career-high 20 points, as well as a personal best six assists. Dalger also set career marks in points, 18, and rebounds, nine, just missing out on a double-double.

Bryant Selebangue picked up where he left off against Oregon State, scoring 15 points again and adding 10 rebounds for his first double-double. Anthony Pritchard added 10 points and five assists to round out double figure scoring.

Loyola Chicago brings a 2-0 record into Thursday's contest. The Ramblers outscored rivals UIC 18-11 in the final 8:48 to turn a tie at 52 into a 70-63 win. Four players finished in double figure scoring, led by Alston Philip's 18 points. He and Bryce Golden paced the team on the glass as well, grabbing seven rebounds apiece.

Second-year head coach Drew Valentine has the Ramblers seeking their third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. After finishing 25-8 in his inaugural season, the team looks a bit different. Loyola is in its first season in the Atlantic 10 with 11 players who hadn't played a minute for the team heading into this season.

After Thursday's contest, the Hurricane will face either Boise State or Charlotte on Friday afternoon. The Hurricane and Broncos have met twice in the past three seasons, splitting the matchups. Boise State won last season's battle 63-58. Tulsa leads the overall series 7-5, but Boise State emerged victorious in the only neutral site game, an 83-73 WAC tournament game in Reno Nevada on March 8, 2005.

The Hurricane holds a 3-1 series advantage over Charlotte. The two last met in 2014, Tulsa's final year, in Conference USA and Charlotte's first in its return to the conference after leaving for the A-10 in 2005. The 49ers took that meeting 90-86 in overtime. The first meeting was in the 1999 Puerto Rico Holiday Classic. The Golden Hurricane win 76-61 and would go on to beat Tennessee 88-68 in the championship.

The Myrtle Beach Invitation will conclude on Sunday with Tulsa's tip time and opponent still yet to be decided.
