Tulsa's sixth-ranked men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to Memphis in the American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinals on Sunday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane fell to 9-4-2 on the season, while the Tigers moved to 9-4-4 overall.
How it Happened
Alex Meinhard scored his ninth goal on the season as he punched in a cross taken by Mitchell Cashion. He put TU on the board at the 21:59 mark as he shot from 22 yards out from the center of the box to the lower left corner of the goal. The Golden Hurricane maintained that 1-0 lead at the break.
Alberto Cruz evened the score at the 49:32 mark as he punched in a penalty kick into the lower left corner and the two teams battled to the end of regulation still tied.
Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos scored on a combination from Emanuel Santos to Hayden Anderson in the 99th minute, but this season "Golden Goal" was eliminated so the teams played the last 88 seconds of the first overtime as well as the second 10-minute overtime period before the Tigers could claim the victory.
