Tulsa men's soccer player Alex Meinhard was drafted by Nashville of Major League Soccer in today's MLS SuperDraft 2023.  Meinhard was the 20th pick in the second round and was the 49th overall selection.

"I am very happy for Alex and Nashville made a great pick," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "To tear his ACL twice, not play a game for nearly three years and now he is a second round draft pick in the MLS and clearly one of the best players in the country.  It says a lot of him as a person and we wish him well."

Meinhard is TU's 15th men's soccer player to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft or Supplemental Draft and the first since Jake McGuire was drafted in the second round by the Houston Dynamo in 2017.

A junior forward from Tartu, Estonia, Meinhard started in 31 of 39 career contests, and registered 29 goals for 10th place on TU's all-time goals scored list.  He also had eight assists for 66 career points.

In his career, Meinhard was a MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree once, was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-East Region first team three times, picked up national weekly accolades a total of seven times, was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year twice, was The American Rookie of the Year once, picked up all-conference first team honors all three years and was an all-rookie team selection as a sophomore, and earned weekly conference accolades six times.

Meinhard had team-bests of 10 goals, five assists and 25 points this past season.  He attempted 38 shots, 22 of which were on goal, for a 57.9 shots-on-goal percentage.  He ranked second in points, third in goals, ninth in shots and 10th in assists in The American final rankings.

Off the field, Meinhard was selected as a 2022 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Scholar First Team All-American after being tabbed to the Scholar All-West Region team, and was a three-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection.
