Tulsa Battles Hard Against #3 Baylor

WACO, Texas ― The Tulsa men's tennis team gave all No. 3 Baylor could handle Friday afternoon, pushing the Bears unlike many teams have done this season, but ultimately falling to the Bears 4-1. Tulsa, who was receiving votes in this week's ITA Coaches Poll, drops to 4-3 on the season, while Baylor improves to 10-0.
The Bears jumped out early in doubles play, as Mazzuchi/Soto got the better of Gaber/Gale 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Tulsa would battle back, as the duo of Pearson/Di Marco pushed Baylor's Bass/Lah to a 3-3 tie at the No. 1, while Siddall/Thelwall-Jones extended their match after falling behind 5-1. In the end, the Bears would take the doubles point to take a 1-0 advantage into singles play.
The Hurricane played the third-ranked Bears strong in singles play, as No. 86 Ezequiel Santalla and Connor Di Marco each won their first sets, while Callum Gale and Kody Pearson forced first set tiebreakers.
Di Marco, who was playing at the No. 5 slot, won his second set 6-0 to give Tulsa its lone point of the match. Adham Gaber battled back to win 7-6 (7-2) in his second set to force a third set. Santalla was in a 6-6 tie in his second set when Baylor clinched the match.
Tulsa will look to bounce back against Alabama on Sunday at noon inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
