RUSTON, La. – The Tulsa softball team will be back in action in the state of Louisiana for the second straight weekend as the Golden Hurricane will play four games at the LA Tech Invitational, two each Saturday and Sunday.

Tulsa (1-4) will open the tournament against host LA Tech (4-2) at 10 a.m. on Saturday and follow that with a 3 p.m. contest against the Sam Houston Bearkats (1-4) at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. Tulsa holds a 14-7 series lead against the Lady Techsters, while holding a 5-1 edge against Sam Houston.

On Sunday, Tulsa will face-off against the two teams one more time each with the Sam Houston game slated for 10 a.m. and the La Tech meeting at 12:30 p.m.

LA Tech won two of three games a season ago in Tulsa against the Hurricane, while Tulsa and Sam Houston last met in 2019 with Tulsa going 2-0 against the Bearkats.

Tulsa opened the season last weekend in Lake Charles for three games and Lafayette for two. The young Hurricane team with 16 of its 18-player roster underclassmen, picked up its lone win in an astounding extra inning comeback over UAB. Tulsa trailed 8-0 after the first-half inning and 10-2 after the second inning but tied the score at 10-10 with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Freshman Celeste Wood's single in bottom of the 12th inning scored two runs for a 13-12 victory.

Wood ended the game with four hits and a school record eight RBI and finished the weekend batting .375. Sophomore Haley Morgan also hit .375 in the five games, while senior pitcher Samantha Pochop threw a total of 19 innings and had 18 strikeouts and a 2.93 ERA.

Tulsa will be back on the road next weekend in Austin, Texas before starting the home season the weekend of March 4-5 with the TU/OSU Invitational.
