Varsity 8+ Advances to Grand Final in Weather Shortened Doc Hosea Invitational

Tulsa's Varsity 8+ advanced to the Grand Final, but the race was canceled due to inclement weather at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Cherry Hill, N.J. TU's 2nd Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats advanced to the Third Final, which were also not raced.
"The team showed some resilience in the weather conditions this weekend with only being able to race in the Heats," Interim Head Coach Olivia Staff said. "The Varsity 8+ put up a great time their first time down the course to make it into the Grand Final. There was a lot of learning done today in the 2nd Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ so we are looking forward to seeing who steps up to lead and make an impact in these crews over the next few weekends."
Chloe Henderson, Ermioni Lamprianidou, Becky Coleman, Johanna Kristof, Sarolta Papp, Karen Undset, Anna Shaw, Bass Andre and Kristina Harris turned in a time of 6:36.28, trailing No. 10 Rutgers by just 4.76 seconds, for a second-place finish in Heat 1 to advance to the Varsity 8+ Grand Final. TU crossed the finish line ahead of Northeastern, Georgetown, Bucknell and Drexel in the event.
"The Varsity 8+ showed some speed against teams ranked in the top 20," Staff said "They are building on their confidence and finding speed even in difficult weather conditions."
Both the 2nd Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats captured fourth-place marks in their Heats, with times of 7:05.01 and 7:49.04, respectively.
Tulsa will return to action on April 1-2 at the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota, Fla.
