Tulsa women's basketball coach Angie Nelp announced the addition of junior transfer Katelyn Levings and freshman Caroline Lyles to the 2022-23 signing class.
"Both of these young ladies come from great families, are exceptional students and share the same values that our team culture is built upon," Nelp said. "They are a perfect fit for our program and The University of Tulsa. We can't wait for the opportunity to coach these two as they join an outstanding group of incoming players."
A 6-3 forward from Oklahoma City, Okla., Levings transfers to Tulsa after playing two seasons at Arizona State. As a Sun Devil, she started in 27 of 48 games, averaged 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, and shot 34.6-percent from the field and 78.7-percent from the free throw line in just over 21 minutes a game. Prior to ASU, Levings was a four-year letterwinner at Edmond Memorial High School where she helped her team win 66 games. She was a four-time all-conference selection and VYPE top 100 honoree. She was also a three-time Super 5 Honorable Mention honoree, Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association all-state selection and was named as a McDonald's All-America nominee her senior season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Katelyn back home and into to our TU family," Nelp said. "Her combination of size and skill at the forward position fit our style of play so well. She plays with a fire and passion for the game and her confidence and identity are built on things that last. She will be a great leader and her experience at a high level alone will bolster our team."
Lyles, a 6-0 guard from Argyle, Texas, was a letterwinner at Argyle High School as a senior. She helped her team finish with a 37-1 record and advance to the state semifinals, while posting 14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Lyles shot 46-percent from the field, 40-percent from behind the arc and 74-percent from the line her senior season. She earned Texas District 7-4A MVP honors, as well as was tabbed to the all-region and all-state teams, and was a McDonald's All-America nominee. Lyles also played two seasons at Fayetteville [Ark.] High School, earning all-conference honors both seasons, and picked up all-state accolades as a junior.
"We couldn't be more excited for Caroline to join our team," Nelp said. "She is a proven winner and strong competitor. She has great size at the guard position and her scoring ability will make an immediate impact on our team. Her work ethic, determination and resiliency will allow her to thrive here at TU."
"Caroline is a really good basketball player," AAU Coach Caleb Livingston said. "She can really shoot the ball, rebounds on both ends at a high rate and just loves to play the game. She is loving, caring and loyal. Caroline doesn't give into the peer pressure and has the confidence in herself to beat to her own drum. Caroline is such a special person and will be to the Tulsa community as well!"
"Caroline played a huge role in our success this season," Argyle Head Coach Chance Westmoreland said. "She's a great player, leader and person. Her work ethic and talent will allow her to be really successful at the next level."
Levings and Lyles join the five signees announced in early November, including Briley Barnes, Cambridge Mathews, Hadley Periman, Chloe Williams and Ahrray Young.
