TOURNAMENT NOTES
PINEHURST, N.C. –– The Tulsa women golfers will be looking to defend their American Athletic Conference Championship, Sunday-Tuesday, April 17-19, at the par-72, 6,290-yard Pinehurst No. 6 Resort Course in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
      Â
Tulsa captured the team title a year ago with rounds of 293-301-294 for an 888 total. Lorena Tseng led the way for Tulsa with a second-place finish while Lilly Thomas placed 13th overall.
Â
The nation's 28th-ranked UCF Knights come in as the tournament favorite this year as the Knights and Golden Hurricane (54) are the only AAC teams ranked among the nation's top 60 teams in GolfStat rankings. Houston (60), South Florida (77), East Carolina (91) and Tulane (92) are among the top 100.
      Â
Thomas leads the Hurricane this season with a 72.4 stroke average in 27 rounds while placing among the top 10 in four of nine tournaments. In Tulsa's last outing at The Bruzzy, Thomas finished in 5th place with a 6-under par 210, while sophomore Sophie Johnson had her best finish of the year with a 2-over par 218 total score for 20th place.
Â
Last year's championship was Tulsa's first as a member of the AAC and the 13th overall league crown in 27 years playing for a conference championship. Tulsa won 3-of-3 Missouri Valley Conference titles, 7-of-9 in the WAC, 2-of-9 in Conference USA and 1-of-6 in The American.
      Â
Since Tulsa joined the league in 2014-15 only three teams have won the AAC crown – Houston (3), UCF (2) and Tulsa (1).
