TULSA, Okla. ― The third seeded Tulsa men's tennis team couldn't quite complete its comeback attempt, falling 4-3 to second seeded Memphis during Saturday's American Athletic Conference Semifinal. TU falls to 15-11 this season.
Memphis jumped out fast, taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Hurricane would battle back in singles, starting off with Callum Gale on court six. Gale beat Harry Rock 6-1, 6-2 to even the match at 1-1.
After Tiger wins on courts one and four, Tulsa got clutch victories from Stefan Hampe at No. 2 singles and Connor Di Marco at No. 5 singles that forced a winner-take-all third set at No. 3 singles.
Unfortunately for TU, Ezequiel Santalla was edged out by Oscar Cutting, and the Memphis Tigers advance to the AAC Championship.
Tulsa will await its next step, as the 2022 NCAA Tennis Championships heads to Champaign, Illinois from May 19-28.
