
Tulsa Softball Takes 8-0 Win Over USF in Five Innings

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa softball team claimed an 8-0 win on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the weekend series against the South Florida Bulls. The game was played amidst high winds with gusts up to 45 MPH in front of a crowd of 117 fans and 18 dogs on "Bark in the Park" Day at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Hurricane scored five runs in the first inning and added runs in the third on a 2-run home run in the third and a single run in the fourth inning to run-rule the Bulls.
Abby Jones had one hit, four RBI and scored two of those runs herself, while Imani Edwards and Celeste Wood had two hits each. Samantha Pochop won her 10th game on the mound by limiting the Bulls to five hits.
Tulsa improved to 15-26-1 and 4-6-1 in league action, while USF fell to 36-13 and 6-5 in American Athletic Conference play.
The final game in the series is scheduled for Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
Tulsa loaded the bases in the first inning as Haley Morgan was hit-by-a-pitch, Edwards singled and Kaitlyn Pearpaw walked. After four batters, the Bulls made a pitching change going from starter Erin Poepping to Lexie Kopko.
Morgan then scored the game's first run on a wild pitch by Kopko, as the Tulsa sophomore slid into home plate before the tag. Jones stepped up to the plate and cleared the bases with a shot over the left field fence for a 4-0 Tulsa lead.
Tulsa added one more run in the first inning as Rylee Keith's sacrifice fly scored Celeste Wood for a 5-0 advantage after one at-bat.
In the third inning, Wood added a two-run shot over the left center field fence to increase Tulsa's lead to 7-0. An inning later, Imani Edwards crossed home plate on a fielder's choice RBI by Jones for an 8-0 advantage for the Hurricane.
The victory was Tulsa's third shutout of the season and the second run-rule game win for the Hurricane
