Layla Roebke Takes First in 3,000-Meter Steeplechase at AAC Outdoor Championships

WICHITA, Kan. Layla Roebke claimed gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the second day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The Tulsa women are in third place with 34 points, while the men are in fourth with 40 points headed into the final day tomorrow.
 
Roebke, a Colorado Springs, Colorado native, tallied a winning time of 10:31.43, about two seconds ahead of Katharina Pesendorfer's second place finish at 10:33.52. The Tulsa duo crossed the finish line over 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field to earn all-conference honors.
 
Tulsa men also had an impressive showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, tallying a second-place finish and all from Christian Baker, who earned all-conference honors, at 9:08.75 and fourth place finish from Pete Johnson at 9:10.85. The tandem combined for 13 points towards the team score.
 
Jaidah McCallon and Josh Sutton both qualified in their respective preliminary events. McCallon finished 6th in the 800-meter prelims at 2:13.21, earning her a spot in tomorrow's final at 6 p.m. Sutton finished 7th in the 100-meter prelims at a season-best 10.48, putting him in a spot to compete in the 100-meter final tomorrow evening.
