The Tulsa rowing team recorded a third-place team finish, while the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ boats earned bronze medals in the American Athletic Conference Championship at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on Sunday. For their efforts, Chloe Henderson was named to The American all-conference first team, while Karen Undset and Becky Coleman picked up second-team accolades.
"This team really trusted each other and recent changes to put out strong performances in each event," Interim Head Coach Olivia Staff said. "It was a full team effort to finish third. We are proud of all they have come through this season to perform at conference and secure two medals. It has been amazing to see these athletes' hard work pay off and we are looking forward to the how this conference experience will further our teams' depth and speed in the upcoming years."
"For the 2V4, it was the rowers first conference race with an experienced coxswain giving them invaluable experience moving into next year. For the 1V4, they've had changes to the lineup all season and they we're able to come together for a third-place finish; helping secure points for our team. The 2V8 raced more consistently than they have all season with an exciting sprint in the last 250 meters to be two seconds from fourth place. The 1V8 had a competitive first thousand with UCF and were able to maintain connection with UCF for a close third-place finish."
Chloe Henderson, Ermioni Lamprianidou, Becky Coleman, Johanna Kristof, Anna Shaw, Karen Undset, Millie Brice, Bass Andre and Sarolta Papp turned in a time of 6:47.666 in the Varsity 8+ race, trailing top finisher SMU (6:36.063) and UCF (6:44.287).
