Tulsa Dominates 5,000-Meter to Conclude AAC Outdoor Championships

Visser Breaks 400m Hurdles School Record

WICHITA, Kan. – Tulsa dominated the 5,000-meter run on both the men's and women's side, posting the top-7 men times and four of the top-5 women's times, while Henry Visser broke his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles to close the three-day American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The Tulsa men finished in third with 123 points, while the women came in fourth at 83 points.

In the men's 5,000-meter run, Scott Beattie took gold, finishing in 14:23.07, just ahead of Isaac Akers and Peter Lynch, who claim all-conference honors. Tulsa came into the weekend ranked third in the 5,000-meter event squad rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and collected 38 of the 39 possible team points for the event.

Henry Visser cemented another historical time in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking his previous record of 51.77 with a 51.48. Visser now has the top-three times in school history.

In the 1,500-meter, Power and Akers finished first and second, while Cormac Dalton placed fourth. Power finished at 3:45.30, while Akers' posted a time of 3:46.15. Beattie finished in eighth at 3:55.22.

On the women's side, Layla Roebke claimed her second victory of the AAC Championships, winning the 5,000-meter run at 16:48.88. Roebke heads back to Tulsa with conference titles in the 5,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase. Katharina Pesendorfer finished second at 16:55.13, while Chloe Hershenow came in third at 17:01.57. Caroline Miller tallied a fifth-place finish at 17:07.38, Chloe McEachern finished in seventh at 17:09.89, and Sara Scott came in ninth at 17:23.47.
Jaidah McCallon recorded an 800-meter time of 2:11.12 to finish in fourth, while Keely Jones' time of 4:27.82 slotted her in fourth in the 1,500-meter run.

Tulsa finishes the 2022 AAC Outdoor Championships with five conference titles and 16 all-conference honors.
