Tulsa Opened NCAA West Prelims Wednesday Night

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –– Tulsa runners were involved in three events Wednesday night at the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships.

Tulsa had runners in the 100m, 400m hurdles and 10,000m at the John McDonnell Field, but failed to qualify any runners into the next round.

Tulsa's Josh Sutton and Henry Visser were first on the track for the Hurricane. Visser just missed advancing to the quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles with a 25^th place performance, finishing one spot behind the final qualifying position. Visser finished in 25^th place with a time of 51.87 and in the 100m Josh Sutton placed 36^th with a time of 10.54. The top 24 finishers advanced to the quarterfinals.

In the 10,000 meters, Cormac Dalton led Tulsa's contingent of three runners with a 17^th place time of 29:09.67, followed by Peter Lynch in 25^th place with a time of 29:20.26 and Scott Beattie clocked a 39^th place time of 30:02.19.

The top-12 in the 10,000m advanced to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.

On Friday, Beattie and Lynch will be joined by Micheal Power and Isaac Akers in the 5,000m, which takes place at 8:10 p.m.

On Saturday, Layla Roebke and Katharina Pesendorfer will close out Tulsa's competitors by competing in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, expected to start at 5:40 p.m.
