
Former TU Tennis Star Marcelo Arevalo Advances to Grand Slam Final with Doubles Win at French Open

PARIS, France — In the second event in the Grand Slam of Tennis, former University of Tulsa tennis standout Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) and teammate Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) advanced to Saturday's French Open Doubles Championship with a three-set victory in Thursday's semifinal match.
After dropping the opening set 6-4, Arevalo and Rojer rebounded to tie the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set and outlasted the team of Matwe' Middelkoop (Netherlands) and Rohan Bopanna (India) 7-6 in a third-set tiebreaker. Arevalo and Rojer won the tiebreaker 10-8.
The 12th-seeded duo will face off against the team of Austin Krajicek (USA) and Ivan Dodig (Croatia) in the French Open Doubles Championship Match.
The title match will be played on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. (ET).
Krajicek and Dodig came back to win the final two sets 7-6, 7-5 after dropping the opening set 6-4 in their semifinal match against the No. 4-seeded team of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.
Arevalo was a two-time letterwinner and all-conference performer for the Golden Hurricane. He was named C-USA Player of the Year and ITA Central Region Player to Watch as a sophomore. Arevalo compiled a career 29-14 singles mark and 30-11 doubles record during his tenure at Tulsa (2009-11).
