The University of Tulsa women's basketball 16-game conference schedule was announced today by the American Athletic Conference.
During the 2022-23 season, Tulsa plays home-and-home games against Houston, SMU, South Florida, Tulane, UCF and Wichita State. The Hurricane will also host Cincinnati and Memphis, while traveling for games at East Carolina and Temple.
TU will be under the direction of second-year Head Coach Angie Nelp. Tulsa returns seven players from last year's 17-11 and WNIT team, including three starters, while welcoming eight newcomers to this season's roster.
"The American Athletic Conference remains one of the most talented and competitive leagues in the country," Nelp said. "We are looking forward to playing another exciting season that I'm sure fans will enjoy watching."
The Hurricane opens the conference season with a road trip to Greenville, N.C., to face East Carolina (Dec. 30). TU claimed a 71-59 decision over the Pirates last season in the only meeting to take a 15-12 advantage in the all-time series.
Tulsa then returns home to the friendly confines of the Donald W. Reynolds Center to host Wichita State (Jan. 4). The Hurricane won all three games against WSU last season, including an 88-86 victory in the first round of The American Championship.
Up next is a game against the reigning American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champions, UCF (Jan. 7), in Orlando. The Knights posted a 26-4 overall record and a 14-1 league mark, and advanced to the NCAA Second Round before falling to former league foe UConn. Tulsa took the Knights to the wire in both meetings a year ago, including a 7-point road loss.
Tulsa returns home to host Houston (Jan. 14) before a pair of road games at Temple (Jan. 17) and Tulane (Jan. 21). The Green Wave registered 21 wins last season, finished third in the conference and went on to advance to the Second Round of the WNIT. The Cougars had 18 wins last season, while the Owls posted 13 victories.
The Golden Hurricane will host three-straight home games to close out January and open the month of February, including South Florida (Jan. 25), SMU (Jan. 28) and Cincinnati (Feb. 1). The Bulls netted 24 wins last season, half of which came in league play, to finish second in The American, and played in the NCAA First Round. The Mustangs had 14 victories and played in the First Round of the WNIT last season.
Tulsa will face SMU (Feb. 7), Tulane (Feb. 12) and Wichita State (Feb. 15) for a second time before hosting Memphis (Feb. 18). Tulsa topped the Tigers in both games last season to take a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series.
TU will travel to face South Florida (Feb. 22) and Houston (Feb. 25) before closing out the regular season at home against UCF (March 1).
The American Athletic Conference Tournament will be played March 6-9, 2023, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
