Tulsa's 22nd-ranked men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over 10th-ranked Charlotte on Sunday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  TU played a man down for the final 32:42 off the clock and held the 49ers to just six shots in the contest.
 
The Golden Hurricane moved to 5-1-1 on the season and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while Charlotte suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
"I thought we learned from our last game when we played a man down," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "We pressed higher up the field much better than last time and we were able to possess the ball for periods of time when we were a man down, and that was obviously the key to keep it 2-0.  We didn't concede many good chances, even when we were down a man.  Charlotte is a tremendous team and every game is going to be a dog fight in the league this year.  I am proud of the guys' effort and their concentration level was tremendous, but we have to get better."
 
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 30 against UAB in Birmingham, Ala.
 
How it Happened
Malik Henry-Scott put Tulsa on the board with just 8:59 ticked off the clock as he controlled a free ball in the box and shot from six yards out from left to right.
 
Alex Meinhard made it a 2-0 game as he shot from 25 yards out up the middle off a combination from Henry Sach to Alvaro Torrijos.

  • Tulsa's Mariano Fazio received a red card at the 57:18 mark and TU played a man down for the final 32:42 of the contest.
