The Tulsa women's basketball team kicked off the 2022-23 campaign with its first official practice today at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

TU is under the direction of second-year Head Coach Angie Nelp and returns seven players from last year's 17-11 and WNIT team, including three starters, while welcoming seven newcomers to this season's roster.

"This is an exciting time," Nelp said.  "We have been focusing quite a bit on skill and team concepts on the court.  We've also been spending a lot of time working with these young women, individually and as a group, on building our team culture and who we want to be. These ladies have already made a lot of strides over the summer and the early fall, and we will continue to prepare for our competitive season."

Key returners include starters Maddie Bittle, Maya Mayberry and Temira Poindexter.  The trio averaged a combined 35.4 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per game last season.  Poindexter, a sophomore from Sapulpa, Okla., is TU's returning scoring and rebounding leader with 12.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg, while fifth-year seniors Mayberry and Bittle added 12.2 ppg and 10.9 ppg, respectively.

The Golden Hurricane also returns Delanie Crawford (7.3 ppg), Jessika Evans (3.6 ppg) and Lexie Foutch (0.3 ppg), as well as sophomore Alyssa Parmer.

Tulsa added transfers Katia Gallegos from UTEP and Katelyn Levings from Arizona State, and five true freshmen in Caroline Lyles, Cam Mathews, Hadley Periman, Chloe Williams and Ahrray Young.

TU will open the season at home against Alcorn State on Monday, November 7 beginning at 6:30 pm at the Reynolds Center.
