Former Tulsa Tennis Star Marcelo Arevalo Advances to the Doubles Semifinal at the US Open

Queens, N.Y. — Former University of Tulsa tennis standout Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) and teammate Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) will play in the doubles semifinals of the U.S. Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens on Thursday.
 
Arevalo and Rojer will face Wesley Koolhof (Netherlands) and Neal Skupski (United Kingdom) at 12:20 p.m. The winning team will advance to the championship match.
 
The duo won their quarterfinal match 6-3 and 6-4 over Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic on Tuesday.
 
Arevalo—who is currently ranked No. 8 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals—was a two-time letterwinner and all-conference performer for the Golden Hurricane. He was named C-USA Player of the Year and ITA Central Region Player to Watch as a sophomore. Arevalo compiled a career 29-14 singles mark and 30-11 doubles record during his tenure at Tulsa (2009-11).
