Tulsa Men Advance in Qualifying Draws at ITA Men’s All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. — True freshman Alex Okonkwo and the duo of Pierce Rollins and Timothy Carlsson Seger found success in the opening day of singles and doubles Qualifying Draw action Monday at the ITA Men's All-American Championships hosted at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the Tulsa campus.

It was a day of firsts for Okonkwo, a native of Maidenhead, England. In his first career match at the Case Tennis Center, he competed for three full sets before coming out on top 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 over Toledo's Pawit Sornlaksup—the nation's 80^th-ranked singles player—to earn his first ranked victory and advance to the singles second round of the Qualifying Draw.

In doubles action, Rollins, a senior transfer from Texas A&M, and Seger, a sophomore, grabbed consecutive tie-breaker victories to advance to the third round of the Qualifying Draw. First, they edged LSU's Welsh Hotard and George Stoupe 6-3, 3-6, [11-9] before narrowly defeating Edward Winter and Linus Carlsson Halldin 7-6, 3-6, [10-8] Monday evening.

Tomorrow, Rollins and Seger will play for a spot in the Main Doubles Draw against Wake Forest's Dhakshineswar Suresh and Holden Koons at 4 p.m. Okonkwo will face Cleeve Harper of Texas at 10 a.m.

With straight-set losses in opening singles round action, Callum Gale, Volodymyr Zakharov and Seger are slated to open Qualifying Draw consolation play tomorrow at 11:15 a.m.
