Philadelphia, Pa. – The University of Tulsa men's soccer team couldn't overcome a four goal second half from the Temple Owls as the Hurricane fell 5-1 on Friday evening.

The loss drops Tulsa to 4-8-2 on the season and 2-5-0 in conference play. Temple moves to 3-7-4 on the season and 2-3-2 in The American. Temple also jumped over Tulsa and South Florida into the sixth and final spot for the American Athletic Conference Championship. With a game to play, Tulsa sits in eighth, two points behind the final spot. Â

The Hurricane will finish the regular season at home on Wednesday, Nov. 1 against FIU for Senior Night. Kickoff at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.

How it Happened
Temple broke the deadlock with 14:10 off the clock in the opening half. Juan Zepeda received an assist from Elias Betancourt and from just inside the penalty arch, slotted it past the goalkeeper with his left foot into the bottom right corner.

Tulsa got back on equal footing in the 42nd minute. Sergio Baena brought the Hurricane level with a right-footed shot from outside the box. It was the midfielder's team-leading fifth goal of the 2022-23 season.

The teams went into the halftime break tied at one. Just eight minutes into the second half, the Owls took the lead for good. Felix Ewald scored to the top right of the goal to put the Owls up 2-1.

Temple put the game to rest over the next 14 minutes, scoring in the 60th, 63rd and 67th minutes to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Despite five second half shots, three on target, Tulsa was not able to cut into the lead the remainder of the game.
