Tulsa Women’s Soccer Meets SMU in The American Quarterfinal on Tuesday

TULSA, Okla. –– After earning the No. 6 seed for the conference tournament, the Tulsa women's soccer team will face the third-seeded SMU Mustangs in the American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Kickoff is set to begin no earlier than 3:30 p.m. (CT) depending on the earlier matches of the day. The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the conference championship will air on ESPN+. Ryan Urquhart will be on the broadcast.

Tuesday will mark the first time the Golden Hurricane has played in a conference tournament since 2015, and Tulsa owns an 0-2 record in The American Championships. This season, Tulsa brings a 5-8-5 record into Tuesday's game. After starting the season 0-6, Tulsa finished 5-2-5, including a 3-2-4 mark in league play.
First team all-conference selection Jordan Frederick leads the Golden Hurricane with four goals and six assists this season, totaling a team-best 14 points. Leah Diaz also has four goals in the campaign. Freshmen Kaylyn Simmons and Piper Szafranski joined Frederick in picking up conference honors, as Simmons was named to The American second team and rookie team, and Szafranski was named to the rookie team.
Between the sticks, Tatum Sanders has made 14 appearances and has logged more than 1,200 minutes in goal. She has allowed 20 goals and recorded 57 saves, posting a 74.0 saves percentage and 1.49 goals against average.
SMU finished its regular season with a 9-5-1 mark, 5-3-1 in The American. Nyah Rose leads the Mustangs attack with nine goals, including a pair of game-winners. Her 0.60 goals per game average ranks second in the conference. Samantha Estrada has logged 1184 minutes in goal this season, with 55 saves made. She has recorded a 79.1 saves percentage and 1.19 goals against average.
The Mustangs and Golden Hurricane met earlier in the season in Dallas, Texas on Sept. 21. The two teams battled to a scoreless draw with each goalkeeper coming up big with a few saves. SMU leads the all-time series 8-27-3.
The winning team moves on to face the winner of the No. 2 seeded South Florida and No. 7 FIU in the semifinal round on Thursday.
