IRVING, Texas — The University of Tulsa's Temira Poindexter was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday. It's the first Player of the Week award for the junior forward from Sapulpa, Okla., who becomes the fifth Tulsa player all-time to bring home The American's top weekly award. She joins Delanie Crawford, who picked up the award in week one.
Poindexter helped the Golden Hurricane go 2-1 at the Van Chancellor Classic, averaging 26 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while averaging 33.9 minutes across all three games.
In the 90-79 overtime win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Poindexter shot 52.4 percent (11-21) from the field and tallied a week-high 29 points to go with six boards. She followed that with a 26-point performance to push Tulsa to its first win over an ACC team since 2006 with a 74-64 decision over Clemson. Poindexter wrapped up the tournament by scoring 23 of Tulsa's 58 points in a loss to 25th-ranked Mississippi State.
Poindexter is eighth in the nation with 23.3 points per game, and leads The American in field goals (63), field goal attempts (135) and points (163).
The weekly award is her first career player of the week honor to go along with being recognized on the AAC's weekly honor roll six times in her career, all coming last year, and eight freshman of the week awards from the 2021-22 season.
Tulsa will wrap up its five-game road tilt on Friday, Dec. 1, at TCU (7-0). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
