Pearson Earns American Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas — Senior Kody Pearson of The University of Tulsa's newly-ranked men's tennis team (No. 45) was named The American Men's Tennis Player of the week, announced by the league today. It is his sixth career weekly conference award and his second of the 2023 season.
Ranked No. 53 in the latest ITA Rankings, the Sydney, Australian native put together another strong performance for the Golden Hurricane last week. He scored Tulsa's lone point with a 6-2, 6-1 performance at the No. 1 position during the Hurricane's 4-1 setback at Arkansas (11-1).
Against Nebraska (4-4) on Friday, Pearson took down Roni Hietaranta—the nation's No. 109-ranked singles player—in back-to-back tiebreakers at the No. 1 position, prevailing 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) to break a 3-3 tie and win the dual match for the Hurricane. Pearson also clinched the doubles point for Tulsa, earning a 6-3 decision with senior partner Connor Di Marco at Doubles No. 1.
Pearson is now 6-1 in dual-match singles action, including a six-match win streak at the No. 1 spot. He is also 2-0 against ranked opponents.
Tulsa's next home match will be against No. 14 Arizona on Wednesday, March 8, at 6 p.m.
