TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa women's tennis team (7-3) is set to compete in the 75th Annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, held in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25. The event will have live scoring.
The annual Division I tournament, held in Montgomery, Ala., showcases 16 men's and women's teams from across the country. Unique to the event, athletes and coaches are offered southern hospitality as Montgomery residents open their doors and serve as hosts for the visiting teams.
The Golden Hurricane opens the tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday against No. 38 Wake Forest, the first ranked team TU has faced since playing then-ranked No. 13 Oklahoma State in January. A win against the Demon Deacons would move Tulsa to the semi-final round, and the Hurricane would face either No. 32 Illinois (6-3) or Alabama (5-3).
Wake Forest features two ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. No. 39 Casie Wooten and No. 49 Anna Brylin lead the way in the Demon Deacons' singles lineup. Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth form the nation's 20th-ranked doubles team.
TU and Wake Forest have met only twice, splitting wins in 2002 and 2003.
