Zakharov Named American Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas — Junior Volodymyr Zakharov of The University of Tulsa men's tennis team was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the week, announced by the league today. It is the first-career weekly conference award for the Odessa, Ukraine native.
 
A transfer from Oral Roberts, Zakharov helped the Golden Hurricane earn a 4-2 win over Texas Tech (3-4) and a 7-0 sweep of Oral Roberts (1-5) by going 2-0 in singles play on Sunday. He clinched the Hurricane's win over the Red Raiders with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot and registered a straight-set (6-4, 6-1) decision at Singles No. 3 against his former team in the Golden Eagles.
 
Zakharov is off to a 5-1 start in singles play this season and is currently on a five-match win streak.
 
Tulsa will return to action on Feb. 15, to take on Arkansas (9-1) in Fayetteville.
