Tulsa’s Mayberry, Poindexter and Young Earn Conference Accolades

Tulsa's Maya Mayberry earned the American Athletic Conference Ambassador Award, while Temira Poindexter was tabbed to The American all-conference first team and Ahrray Young was selected to the all-Freshman team, as announced today by the league office.
 
Mayberry is TU's first Ambassador Award recipient, Poindexter is the program's first American Athletic Conference first-team honoree and sixth overall all-conference performer, and Young is the team's sixth all-Freshman team selection.
 
Mayberry, a fifth-year senior from Tulsa, Okla., has started in all 71 games, has 47 double-figure scoring games and has totaled 848 points at TU.  This season, she has started in all 29 games, has 15 double figure scoring games and averages 10.9 points per game.  She currently ranks 18th in school history in total points, third in three-point field goal percentage (37.9) and third in three-point field goals made (170).  Off the court, Maya was twice named to the American Athletic Conference all-academic team.  She earned her degree in organizational studies in December of 2021 and will earn her MBA this May. 
 
A sophomore from Sapulpa, Okla., Poindexter has started in all 29 games this season, posting team-bests of 16.1 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, 43 blocks and 30 steals on the year.  She has three double-doubles, 26 double-figure scoring games and three double-digit rebounding contests on the season.  Poindexter boats season-highs of 25 points against #23 South Florida (2-22-23), 10 field goals made (Tulane – 1-21-23), five three-point baskets made (SMU – 1-28-23), eight free throws made (Wichita State – 2-15-23), 11 rebounds (Wichita State – 11-4-23), five steals (UCF – 1-7-23) and five blocks (UCF – 1-7-23) in conference play.  Poindexter also ranks fourth in free throw percentage (.828), fourth in blocked shots (1.48), fifth in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage (.400), eighth in three-point field goals made (1.90), ninth in defensive rebounds (4.59), 15th in minutes played per game (30.80) and 16th in rebounding among the league's best.
 
Young, a freshman from Elk Grove, Calif., started in nine of 20 games before suffering a season-ending injury.  She had one double-double, nine double-figure scoring games and one double-digit rebounding contest on the year, with season-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds at Texas Southern (12-22-22), as well as five assists (Temple – 1-17-23) and four steals (East Carolina – 12-30-22).  Young was also twice named The American Freshman of the Week (Dec. 5 and Dec. 12).
