Zakharov Earns American Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas — University of Tulsa men's tennis standout Volodymyr Zakharov was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced today by the league. It is the second weekly conference award of the season for the junior from Odessa, Ukraine.
Zakharov went 2-0 in singles play to lead the Golden Hurricane to wins over No. 38 Oklahoma State and Creighton on Saturday. He clinched the 4-1 dual match win over the Cowboys with a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory in the fourth position. Then, he added Tulsa's sixth team point with a 6-3, 6-3 decision, also at Singles No. 4 during the Hurricane's 6-1 rout of the Bluejays.
At 9-7 this season, Zakharov has won four of his last six completed singles matches, including his last three at the fourth position.
Tulsa will finish out the regular season at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., taking on No. 58 South Florida (12-11) on Friday, April 14, at 12:30 p.m., and No. 49 UCF (8-11) on Sunday, April 16, at 11 a.m.
