IRVING, Texas — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team (11-12) will be the No. 5 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship, announced by the league Tuesday night. The 53rd-ranked Golden Hurricane will face fourth-seeded No. 51 SMU (15-13) in the quarterfinal round on Friday, April 21, at 8 a.m.

The tournament will be held at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Orlando, Fla., with quarterfinal play beginning Friday and the championship match starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships.

The Golden Hurricane enters the conference championship in search of its 17th conference title and first American title. Head Men's Tennis Coach Vince Westbrook looks to earn his 10th conference championship at the helm.

TU will be looking for revenge on Friday as SMU grabbed a 4-1 win over the Hurricane on March 19, putting the Mustangs up 15-13 in the overall series.

No. 65 Adam Neff leads the Mustangs in singles play with a 16-4 overall record and a 13-2 record at the No. 1 position. Neff and teammate Pranav Kumar, ranked 68th in the latest ITA rankings, lead the charge in doubles play with an 8-4 record at the top of the lineup.

Tulsa ended the regular season on a high note, winning four of its last five dual matches and outscoring opponents 21-5. Adham Gaber, Stefan Hampe and Timothy Carlsson Seger are riding four-match win streaks heading into championship weekend. Gaber is 8-2 in his last 10 appearances, while Hampe and Seger have won six of their last 10 showings.
