Tulsa Golfers Finish in Third Place at The American Championships

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. –– The Tulsa women's golf team finished in third place in the 10-team field at the American Athletic Conference Championships Wednesday. The Hurricane carded a final round even-par 288 for a 54-hole total of 5-under 859 at the par-72 Southern Hills Plantation Club.
 
SMU had a spectacular 14-under par final round en route to a 25-under par 274 score to claim a 14-stroke victory and the AAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. UCF finished in second place with a score of 11-under 853, followed by Tulsa (859), Houston (862) and South Florida (864) to round out the top-five finishers.
 
Lovisa Gunnar had Tulsa's top performance, finishing in an eighth-place tie at 2-under par 214. Gunnar turned in a 2-under par 70 in final round action with four birdies and two bogeys on the day.
 
Sydney Seigel and Lilly Thomas tied for 11th place with final scores of 1-under par 215.  Seigel had an even-par 72 in final round play, while Thomas shot 2-over par 74.
 
Freshmen Jenni Roller and Grace Kilcrease finished in 14th and 21st place, respectively. Roller shot 74 today for a 1-over par 217 and Kilcrease scored an even-par 72 for a 3-over par total score of 219.
 
In its eighth American Championship since joining the league, Tulsa's third place performance was the second-best finish for the Hurricane. Tulsa claimed the team title in 2021 but fell to seventh place a year ago.
 
SMU's Michelle Zhang led the individual race from start to finish as she completed the tournament with a 15-under par score of 201.
 
The NCAA Women's Golf Selection Show will take place next Wednesday, April 26, where Tulsa will find out if it receives an invitation to the NCAA field for the second time in three seasons.
