Tulsa Tops Oklahoma in Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ Races

The Tulsa rowing team raced Oklahoma in a duel on Saturday morning on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City.  The Golden Hurricane claimed top marks in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+, while the Sooners won the 2nd Varsity 4+, 2nd Varsity 8+ and 3rd Varsity 8+ races.
 
"I think overall we felt pretty pleased with our performance," Head Coach Brandon Campbell said. "This was our last race before we head to the conference championship so we're going to finish up our exams and then dial it and focus on our training before we race in the championship."
 
Mary Grace Wilson, Vanja Bogdanovic, Bobbi Forster, Cali Campbell and Kyra VanderWeele turned in a time of 7:55.0 in the Varsity 4+, topping Oklahoma (8:00.4) by 5.4 seconds.
 
In the Varsity 8+ race, Isabella Musollino, Anna Shaw, Madlen Markova, Emily Bell, Karen Undset, Darya Vyrupayeva, Iffy Marinos, Ermioni Lamprianidou and Johanna Kristof crossed the finish line in a time of 6:57.9, nearly three seconds ahead of the Sooners (7:00.8).
 
Anna Lackner, Clarissa Jackson, Alyssa Davault, Kaya Smith, Molly Morris, Ashley Johnson, Madelynne Fuchs, Julianna Lynch and Taylor Korb posted a time of 7:36.0 in the 3rd Varsity 8+, trailing OU (7:27.2) by 8.8 seconds.  The Sooners 4th Varsity 8+ was third in a time of 7:46.2.
 
In the 2nd Varsity 4+, the Sooners recorded a first-place finish with a time of 8:02.9, topping TU's boat (8:06.0), which featured Erica Taylor, Kelsey Viane, Ashley Johnson, Anastasiia Ustiuzhanina and Taylor Hopkins by 3.1 seconds.  OU's 3rd Varsity 4+ finished third with a time of 8:39.6.
 
Paloma Probart, Sarolta Papp, Becky Coleman, Katherine Stenning, Robine Van Doorn, Kristina Harris, Ivanina Petrova, Helena Gutzmer and Letizia Susenna were second in the 2nd Varsity 8+ race with a time of 7:19.6, trailing Oklahoma (7:14.8) by 4.8 seconds.
 
The Golden Hurricane will return to action at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday, May 14 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
