Tulsa Names Josh Molino Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach

TULSA, Okla. –– Kansas Wesleyan Men's Tennis Coach Josh Molino has been appointed assistant coach of The University of Tulsa men's tennis program, it was announced today by Vince Westbrook, senior associate athletic director, director of tennis and head men's tennis coach.

Molino has coached at the prep, collegiate and USTA National levels over the last 12 seasons, enjoying significant success. He was named the 2022 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Coach of the Year, the 2022 Wilson ITA NAIA Central Region Men's Coach of the Year, the 2021-22 USPTA Missouri Valley Collegiate Coach of the Year and the 2019 USTA Missouri Kansas High Performance Coach of the Year.

"Josh brings to our program an array of experiences and successes at the high school, USTA and collegiate levels," said Westbrook. "He will be a great asset in coaching and instructing our student-athletes. Josh will also fit tremendously into our tennis community, not only in Tulsa and Oklahoma, but the entire region."

Molino also coached for the 2019 USTA National Team Age-16 Zonals and the 2022 USTA National Team Age-14 Zonals. He has served as the chairperson of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Tennis Coaches Committee, chairperson of the ITA NAIA Operating Committee and director of tennis at the Salina (Kan.) Country Club.

He spent the past five years (2018-23) coaching the Kansas Wesleyan men's team, compiling a 27-40 overall record and 19-18 mark in conference play.

In 2023, Molino's squad posted an 8-11 record and a 6-5 league mark. Three of the Coyotes losses came against the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 20-ranked teams in the country. He coached the KCAC Player of the Year and second-team NAIA All-American Bryce Ware.

A year earlier, the Coyotes went 9-8 overall and 7-2 in league play, while advancing to the semifinal round of the KCAC tournament. He coached three all-conference players that year, including the KCAC Freshman of the Year Daniel Harkin.

His 2021 team was named as the KCAC Champions of Character, the 2020 team was the recipient of the ITA NAIA Men's Tennis National Community Service Award, while in 2019 KWU had the school's first-ever nationally ranked doubles team, coming in at No 17.

Before his stint at Kansas Wesleyan, Molino was the director of junior tennis at the Genesis Health Club in Salina (Kan.). Under his leadership, the program grew from 60 to 80 participants while tutoring three players to Missouri Valley Section tournament titles and four players to Section Top 100 rankings.

Previously, Molino spent one year at the Country Club of Orlando (Fla.) and five years at the Sports Club of West Bloomfield (Mich.) where he served as assistant director of junior tennis. At the Sports Club, he helped mentor several players that went on to win a total of 40 state championships, five individual national championships, five collegiate All-Americans and had 15 student-athletes playing at top-tier NCAA Division I tennis programs.

Molino also spent three years as the varsity boys' tennis coach at Detroit (Mich.) Country Day School, where his team captured the Michigan Division III team state championship and set new state records for points scored in a state tournament. His teams compiled a 44-1 record and were ranked No. 1 by the state of Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association for three straight seasons.

A 2011 Central Florida graduate, Molino earned his bachelor's degree in sports and fitness.
