Cassaday Named to All-Tournament Team Following 3-0 Loss to No. 17 Washington State

Pullman, Wash. — Graduate outside hitter Kayley Cassaday was named to the Cougar Invitational All-Tournament Team following Tulsa's 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16) loss to the 17th-ranked Washington State Cougars on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane dropped to 2-3 on the year, while Washington State moved to 5-1.
Cassaday had strong performances in Tulsa's 1-2 showing in the two-day tournament. She slammed down 45 total kills and kept the ball alive with 19 digs. She also clipped an average hitting percentage of .237 with only 17 attack errors in a whopping 118 attacks for the Hurricane. Cassaday's best performance came against Washington State, where she led Tulsa with 14 kills and eight digs.
Cassaday had a near-perfect first set against the Cougars, knocking down seven kills in nine attempts without a single error on the way to hitting .346 on the night.
Team hitting accuracy was the deciding factor in Saturday's loss. Washington State committed only four attack errors to eclipse a hitting average of .506. Three of their four errors came at the hands of sophomore middle blocker Camryn Lingenbrink, who led Tulsa with three total blocks.
Senior Setter Avery Kalsu coordinated the Tulsa attack with 26 assists and added six digs. Junior libero Marta Pecalli chipped in five digs.
Tulsa will return to the Donald W. Reynolds Center for the first time this season to host its 2023 home opener Thursday against cross-town rival Oral Roberts, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The match will be the first of three from next week's Tulsa Invitational with matches against UT Arlington and Central Arkansas rounding out the third week of non-conference play for TU.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The first set featured six tie scores and two lead changes in the first 15 points scored. It was the Cougars who broke the tie at 8-7 and held the lead for the remainder of the stanza. Tulsa hit well in set one, knocking away 14 kills with only one attack error and adding 10 digs. Washington State's defense, which put up 15 digs, gave the Cougars more opportunities to attack and seal away the first set 25-18.
SET 2 | Tulsa never had the lead in set two as Washington State claimed the second point of the match with a 25-15 performance. The Cougars limited Tulsa to 11 kills and forced five Hurricane attack errors for a .171 attack percentage while hitting for .552. Washington State
SET 3 | The Hurricane used a 5-0 run to take an 8-2 lead to start the third set. The run was fueled by kills from middle blockers Camryn Lingenbrink and Arianna Mongare. Lingenbrink added a solo block while Mongare added an ace. The Cougars came back and took the lead at 11-10 and ran off with the set, 25-16, to seal away the match.
