Kalsu Eclipses 1,500 Career Assists in Tulsa’s 3-0 Performance Against UT Arlington

Tulsa, Okla. — Senior setter Avery Kalsu continues to have a strong showing at the Tulsa Invitational. She helped Tulsa to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23) sweep over UT Arlington by putting up 38 total assists to pass the 1,500 career-assist milestone Friday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane improved to 4-3, while the Mavericks fell to 6-2.
"It means the world to me," said Kalsu. "I love this University and I love getting to play with these girls and coaches every week."
Tulsa's defense stepped up in a big way, holding the Mavericks to a .128 attack percentage. Four different TU athletes had double-digit digs, led by junior libero Marta Pecalli who had 16 on the night.
Graduate hitter Kayley Cassaday had an excellent match on the outside position. She led the court with 23 kills and posted a season-high .373 hitting percentage.
Tulsa will wrap up the Tulsa Invitational tomorrow in the Reynolds Center at 2 p.m. against Central Arkansas (4-5).

» Avery Kalsu eclipsed 1,500 career assists with a floor-leading 38 assists, averaging 12.67 assists per set.
» Kayley Cassaday had season-highs in kills (23), points (24) and hitting percentage (.373)
» Four Hurricane had double-digit digs (Marta Pecalli (16), Brayden Hipp (12), Avery Kalsu (11) and Lauren Eitler (10).
» Five TU players had two or more block assists. Arianna Mongare and Camryn Lingenbrink lead the court with four apiece.
How It Happened
SET 1 | UT Arlington scored the first two points of the match, but TU took over the lead at 3-2 and never gave up the lead from there, cruising to a 25-20 first-set win. Marta Pecalli had 10 digs in the set to hold off the Mavericks' attack.
SET 2 | Tulsa prevailed 25-19 in the second set, which featured tie scores and three lead changes. Kayley Cassaday had seven kills with only one attack error in 14 attempts to lead Tulsa to a 2-0 advantage in the match.
SET 3 | The Hurricane fought through tie scores to start the match until it finally broke the tie at 15-14 and rode the momentum from there to secure the 25-23 third-set win and the 3-0 sweep over the Mavericks. Four different Hurricane recorded a block assist before closing out the stanza.
