Tulsa Runners Turn in 29 Top-10 Performances at the Cyclone Open

AMES, Iowa – In its fourth meet of the indoor season and second since the semester break, the Tulsa men's and women's teams saw three runners post top marks as the Hurricane had a total of 29 top-10 performances at the Cyclone Open on Friday.
 
Two Tulsa women has first-place performances, including Katharina Pesendorfer in the mile run and Elizabeth Roca in the 400 meters. Pesendorfer clocked a time of 4:48.40 and Roca finished with a time of 55.17 in the 400m.
 
On the men's side, Josh Sutton grabbed first place in the 60 meters with a time of 6.76.
 
WOMEN
Senior Katharina Pesendorfer led four Tulsa runners with a first-place time of 4:48.40 in the mile run, while sophomore Alicen Ashley finished in sixth place with a personal-best time of 4:51.28 and senior Tamara Reeves also had a personal-best 4:54.57 time for ninth place to give the Hurricane three of the top-10 places.
 
Tulsa's Elizabeth Roca claimed another top finish for the Hurricane, place first in the field of 20 runners in the 400m. The senior clocked a time of 55.17, while sophomore Raniya Laneau finished in seventh place.
 
Sophomore Lianne Holtermann, after missing the first three meets, made her return to the track in grand fashion with a 1:28.17 time in the 600-yard run for second place, finishing two spots ahead of fellow sophomore Karli Wooten.
 
In the 800-meters, sophomores Sarah Hosey and Billie Rouse finished second and third, respectively. Hosey clocked a time of 2:11.06 and Rouse came in at 2:11.20.
 
Five Tulsa women finished among the top-10 in the 3,000 meters with senior Tamara Reeves leading the way with a time of 9:44.14 in second place, followed by graduate transfer Ailey Mitchell's time of 9:44.91 for third place. Senior Chloe Hershenow in fourth, sophomore Alicen Ashley in eighth and Pesendorfer in 10th place rounded out Tulsa's runners.
 
The 4x400 relay saw two Tulsa teams participating as the 'A' team placed third and the 'B' team finished in sixth place.
 
 
MEN
Senior Josh Sutton grabbed Tulsa's first gold medal of the day for the men with a time of 6.76 in the 60 meters, bettering the second-place finisher by .10. He finished his preliminary race in a time of 6.75.
 
Sutton clocked a third-place time of 21.63 in the 200m as well. His top-3 performances for the 60m and 200m are his best finishes this season in those events.

In the mile run, Tulsa had three finishers among the top-11 as junior Sean Korsmo placed third overall in a time of 4:02.08. Senior Malte Propp finished in 4:07.20 and transfer Jaden Forester clocked a time of 4:07, 27 as the tandem placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
 
Junior Evan Sanni-Thomas placed third in the 400m with a time of 48.41.
 
The Tulsa men closed out the day in the 3,000m as Chris McLeod led six Hurricane runners in the top-10 with a third-place finish in a third-place time of 8:02.92. Christian Baker, Malte Propp, Jaden Forester, Charlie Krasnoff and James Knockton finished fifth through ninth place.
 
 
NEXT UP
Tulsa will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas.
