The AAC Championship is less than two weeks away with all 11 teams in the league having two or less regular-season games to go. If the regular season were over, Tulsa would qualify as the No. 7 seed in the eight-team tournament for having a 3-5 league record for nine standing points.
UTSA (2-5-2), Florida Atlantic (2-4-2) and Charlotte (1-2-5) are in a three-way tie for eighth with eight points each. TU holds head-to-head tiebreakers over UTSA and FAU and will play its final two games of the regular season against first-place South Florida on Sunday and 16th-ranked Memphis on Thursday.
This will be the 10th meeting between the Hurricane and Bulls. USF leads the overall series 8-1 entering the game with Tulsa's only win coming in the first meeting in 2014, a 3-2 decision at home.
South Florida enters Sunday's action in a tie for first place with No. 16 Memphis (11-1-2, 6-0-2 AAC). Both teams have 20 standing points with six wins and two ties apiece.
Last time out, the Bulls grabbed a 1-0 home victory over UTSA on Thursday resulting in their fifth match win in a row. They have not tied or dropped a game since their 1-0 loss to Memphis on Sept. 29.
The Bulls currently feature The American's top goalkeeper in Leire Herraez Gallach. The junior Spaniard leads the league in shutouts (9), save percentage (.872) and goals against average (.408). As a team, South Florida leads the conference for shutout percentage (.625) and goal differential (21).
Junior forward Jordan Frederick has been one of the masterminds behind Tulsa's high-scoring offense this season. She enters the game on Sunday ranked 14th in the country with eight assists and ranks 25th for assists per game (0.47). Frederick leads the AAC in both benchmarks.
Frederick is also tied for fifth in program history with 18 career assists and needs one more assist to tie Melissa McCormick (1998-01) in 2000 and Rachel Thun (Blankenship) in 2016 for the most assists in a single season by a TU woman.
Sophomore Leah Diaz, a forward, is 67th in Division I with six assists. She also has seven goals to her name, giving her a team-leading 20 points, the third-highest in the conference.
True freshman forward Blaine Schutte remains among the league's top scorers as she's second in the AAC for goals (8) and third for goals per game (0.47).
Tatum Sanders, a junior goalkeeper, is second in The American for saves per game (5.79), third for total saves (81) and fourth for save percentage (.802). She's also tied for fifth in program history in career saves (193).
As a team, Tulsa is 13th in the nation for assists (41), 16th for assists per game (2.41), 22nd for total points (113), 25th for points per game (6.65) and 27th for total goals (36).
