The State Farm WBCA Showcase
- The Golden Hurricane are set to take part in the State Farm Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Showcase, a brand new event in women's college basketball to be played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World.
- TU will face Georgia (3-2) to kick off the event on Thursday at 4 p.m. Central. Then, the Hurricane will open Saturday with an 11 a.m. game against Marshall (1-3).
- Both of Tulsa's games will air on the NBC Sports FAST Channel, which can be viewed on Peacock, Roku Channel, PlutoTV, Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Fire TV, XUMO and Freevee.
- Tulsa is 35-32 all-time in nonconference regular-season events and tournaments.
Measuring up with the Bulldogs
- This will be just the second time Tulsa and Georgia have ever met ... the first meeting was played on Dec. 12, 1980 in Tulsa, ending in a 97-79 win for Georgia.
- Georgia is 3-2 to start the year, defeating North Carolina Central, Houston and Furman by scores of 14 or more points. They fell in their last two outings against Georgia State (66-60) and Georgia Tech (83-67).
- The Bulldogs are coming off a 12-18 season that ended with a first-round exit in the SEC Championship ... UGA returns six letterwinners from that squad.
- Third-year head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson previously coached UCF from 2016-22 ... her nationally ranked Knights took on Angie Nelp's squad twice in 2021-22, winning by 15 or more points in each game, one of which was the first round of the AAC Championship (69-54).
- Trinity Turner, a true freshman, leads the Bulldogs with 14.2 points per game while adding 6.4 boards per contest.
- Amiya Evans is fourth in the nation with 52 rebounds and is one of 12 players in the country with three double-doubles so far.
- A win over Georgia would give Tulsa its third consecutive win over an SEC team (Florida, 72-64, 2023-24; Arkansas, 80-62, 2023-24).
What's the Word on the Herd?
- Saturday marks the 10th meeting between TU and Marshall.
- Tulsa has the opportunity to tie up the series at five games apiece as Marshall currently leads 5-4.
- The Thundering Herd are 1-3 on the season after dropping close contests to Toledo (71-68) and Northern Kentucky (78-80), beating Elon 65-56 and falling 69-56 to George Mason.
- First-year head coach Juli Fulks was previously the 2024 WBCA Division III Coach of the Year after going 31-1 with Transylvania and finishing in the Final Four for a second straight season.
- Meredith Maier is 11th in Division I in three-pointers (14) and 15th in threes per game (3.5) while Aislynn Hayes is 15th with 25 free throws.
Crawford Finds Ways to Score
- It's no surprise that returning All-American senior Delanie Crawford is Tulsa's scoring leader through the first three games.
- She is a multi-level scorer who finds different ways to put up points for TU.
- Crawford is second in The American in free throw percentage (.846) and seventh in three-pointers per game (2.33).
Hill Scoring in Double-Digits
- Returning sophomore guard Elise Hill has scored in double-figures in five of her last six games for the Golden Hurricane, including in her first three career starts this season.
- She had 12 points in the season-opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, scored 12 more in a team-leading effort at Missouri State (11/10) and scored 12 again against ORU (11/17).
- She led back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts in the first two rounds of the WBIT last season, including a career-high 18 points against Arkansas.
Clack on the Boards and Blocks
- Sophomore Jade Clack, a transfer from TCU, has stepped up on defense in the first three games for TU.
- She has led Tulsa in rebounds every game so far, finishing with a career-high nine boards against Oral Roberts (11/17).
- Clack is 12th in the AAC with 6.7 rebounds per game.
- She also has recorded a block in every game, including two last time out against ORU.
TU is Winning the Turnover Margin
- Tulsa is handling the ball well through the first three games of the season with a +3.0 turnover margin per game, the third-highest among all American Athletic Conference teams so far.
- Opponents have turned the ball over 62 times compared to Tulsa's 53.
- The turnover battle has been largely due to TU's ability to steal the ball, out-stealing opponents 31-23.
Nelp Over Halfway to Century Mark in Wins.
- Tulsa's Angie Nelp won her 50th career game in her three seasons with a 65-55 win at Charlotte on Jan. 27, 2024.
- She is currently 60-36 three games into her fourth season.
- No previous Tulsa coach had reached 50 wins in their first three seasons … only three other Tulsa head coaches won more than 50 games in their careers.
Crawford Already Racking up Awards
- Preseason expectations for senior guard Delanie Crawford are high as the returning All-American from Piedmont, Okla., has been named to two preseason honors.
- The WBCA selected Crawford as one of 25 hoopers from around the country to the 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List, becoming the first Golden Hurricane player to represent Tulsa on any Hammon Award watch list.
- Crawford was also voted to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference First Team by the league's coaches.
Nine Newcomers Highlight the Roster
- Tulsa's roster features nine newcomers to the program, including five transfers and four true freshmen.
- Portal additions include redshirt freshman Tobi Ademuwagun (pronounced ah-day-moo-wag-gun) from Penn, senior Kristol Ayson from Jacksonville State, redshirt junior Paige Bradley and sophomore Jade Clack from TCU and sophomore McKayla Miller from Creighton.
- The four freshmen looking for their first collegiate action are the twins from Houston, Brooklyn and Kennedi Alexander, Brynn Eshoo of Inverness, Ill. and Whitney Sullivan from Orangeville, Ill.
