No. 56 Tulsa Unable to Hold Momentum in 5-2 Loss at No. 58 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Tulsa men's tennis team held the initial advantage by scoring the doubles point, but the 58th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers stifled TU in singles play to take the dual match 5-2 in the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln Sunday. The Golden Hurricane's losing skid extends to seven as Tulsa drops to 3-7, while the Huskers improve to 8-4.

Nebraska started off doubles with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot to gain the one-match advantage over the Hurricane before senior Callum Gale and redshirt freshman Gus Tettamble responded with a 6-4 decision in the second spot. Needing to win at the top of the lineup to secure the doubles score for Tulsa, No. 55 Pierce Rollins and Timothy Carlsson Seger survived a 7-6 battle with an 8-6 tiebreaker to give the Hurricane the 1-0 lead.

The excitement was short-lived however as the Huskers retaliated in singles play with straight-set wins at the Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 6 positions. The team win was clinched at 4-1 when Calvin Mueller defeated Gale 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 slot.

Electing to finish the singles matches, Nebraska made it a 5-1 match after grabbing another two-set victory at the fifth spot. The last match of the day belonged to Seger as he and Nebraska's Lars Johann fought for three long sets. Seger won his first set 7-6, with a 7-1 tiebreaker win, before falling 7-6 (7-4) in the second stanza. At two sets all as the last match standing, the two players engaged in a 10-point tiebreak set, where Seger escaped 10-8 to secure the Hurricane's lone singles win and end the day at 5-2.

The Tulsa men will remain on the road to take on Tulane (2-7) Friday, March 1, at 1 p.m., before facing Ole Miss (5-4) in Oxford Sunday, March 3, at 1 p.m. The Hurricane's showdown with Tulane will stream on ESPN+.
