Tulsa Softball Hosts TU/OSU Invite This Weekend

Hurricane plays Liberty in Norman Friday before hosting tournament Saturday-Sunday


TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa softball team will play five games this weekend before opening the American Athletic Conference season next week.
 
Tulsa has posted a 9-5 record through the first three weeks of the season including a 4-1 performance at last weekend's UNLV Rebel Classic with wins over Southern Utah, Santa Clara and two victories against the host Rebels.
 
On Friday, the Golden Hurricane plays a neutral site game against Liberty University before hosting the TU/OSU Invite at the Collins Family Softball Complex, Saturday-Sunday, March 2-3. Tulsa plays the Flames at Marita Hynes Stadium in Norman, Okla., with first pitch on Friday at 12:30 p.m. This is the second meeting between the two schools, as the previous game was also played in Norman in the 2014 season with Tulsa winning 23-1.
 
The TU/OSU Invite will begin on Saturday as Miami (Ohio) and Seattle get the event underway with the first game at 10 a.m. Drake vs. Kansas City follows at 12:30 p.m. Tulsa will get in action with a 3 p.m. contest against Seattle and follow that with a 5:30 p.m. game against Drake.
 
Kansas City and Miami will open Sunday's games with a 10 a.m. contest. Tulsa closes out tournament action on Sunday with matchups against Miami at 12:30 p.m. and Kansas City at 3 p.m.
 
Tulsa will be facing Seattle and Miami for the first time in school history on the diamond, while the Hurricane has a 16-0 series record against Kansas City and is 6-9 against the Drake Bulldogs.
 
Through 14 games, the Hurricane is batting .321 as a team with a .476 slugging percentage, while Tulsa pitchers are holding the opposition to a .233 average at the plate and have been backed up by a defense with a .981 fielding percentage.
 
Tulsa has four players batting better than .345, including left fielder McKenzie Denson and shortstop Imani Edwards averaging .458 and .404, respectively. Kennedy Cramer has hit .370 on the year and Abby Jones .348. Edwards leads the way with 11 RBI, followed by third baseman Claira Skaggs with 10.
 
Miami and Drake enter the tournament with winning records through the first three weeks of the season. Miami is 9-2 with three run-rule decisions, while Drake has posted a 6-4 mark. Both UMKC and Seattle come into the weekend with identical 6-9 records. Two of Seattle's losses have come against No. 1-ranked Oklahoma and No. 21 California.
 
Softball season tickets for the 20-game home schedule are still available and priced at $50.00 and can be purchased by calling 918-631-4688. Single-game tickets can be purchased online at TulsaHurricane.com or on game days at the stadium gate for $5.00.
 
For the TU/OSU Invite, tickets purchased for $5.00 each day is good for all the games that day. Four games will be played on Saturday and three on Sunday.
