Tulsa’s Gunnar in First Place, Team Moves into Second at The American Championship

SECOND ROUND RESULTS
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. –– Tulsa's Lovisa Gunnar took over first-place individually in leading the Golden Hurricane team's jump from fifth to second-place at the American Athletic Conference Championship after Tuesday's second round.
Tulsa carded a 7-under par score of 281 and sits in second place at 12-under 564 following the first 36 holes at the par-72 Southern Hills Golf Club. South Florida took over first place after today's 11-under 277 for an 18-under total score of 558. SMU (567), East Carolina (571) and UTSA (584) round out the top five teams.
Gunnar moved from fourth place after an opening round score of 4-under par 68 with an even better total today as the junior turned in a 5-under score of 67. She opened the day with a birdie on the par-4 first hole and proceeded to sink birdie putts on holes No. 5, 7, 8, 9 to finish the first nine at 5-under. Gunnar parred her final nine holes to end the day in first place.
She sits two strokes ahead of SMU's Ellie Szeryk's score of 137, while UTSA's Daniela Abonce and USF's Melanie Green are tied for third place at 6-under 138.
Tulsa sophomore Grace Kilcrease shot up from 30th to 10th place with a 4-under par 68 to finish the first 36 holes with a 2-under 142 total.
Kilcrease opened with birdies on holes one and two and added another birdie on the par-5 fifth hole to go 3-under after five holes. She bogeyed the par-4 sixth and par-4 ninth hole while knocking in another birdie putt on the par-5 seventh hole to finish the opening nine holes at 2-under par. Kilcrease had a bogey-free back nine with birdie putts on par-5 holes No. 12 and No. 16.
Tulsa redshirt freshman Allyn Stephens turned in Tulsa's third under-par score of the day with a 1-under 71 as she jumped eight spots in 15th place. Stephens had two birdies on both the front and back nine.
Junior Sydney Seigel's score of 1-over par 145 after today's round of 75 has her in 18th place going into Wednesday's final 18 holes. Sophomore Jenni Roller shot an even par is in 27th with a 5-over par 149 score.
The third and final round of the 2024 American Women's Golf Championship will be on Wednesday with tee times expected to begin at 8 a.m. (ET)/ 7 p.m. (CT). Coverage on ESPN+ will begin at 10 a.m. ET with Lincoln Rose and Ed Clements on the call.
