Lopez and Sekiguchi Collect Preseason Accolades

TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa men's soccer goalkeeper Alex Lopez was unanimously tabbed as The American Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, and he and midfielder Yuki Sekiguchi were named to the preseason all-conference team, as voted on by the league's coaches.
The Golden Hurricane was picked to finish sixth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Tulsa is coming off a 4-8-3 season and returns 19 players from last season's squad. They'll be joined by 14 newcomers to complete the 33-man squad.
A senior from Madrid, Spain, this is the second consecutive season Lopez is named The American Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year. In his career at Tulsa, Lopez has picked up conference goalkeeper of the year accolades twice, as well as two United Coaches all-East Region second team selections. He has made 46 appearances with 44 starts as a Golden Hurricane, logging more than 4,100 minutes between the sticks. The prolific goalkeeper has a career 1.12 goals against average with 122 saves and a 70.5 saves percentage. He has 14 solo shutouts and taken part in three combined shutouts.
A senior from Hitachi, Japan, Sekiguchi made the most of his 10 appearances in his first season at Tulsa. The midfielder started in all 10 selections, recording 686 minutes, nearly 69 minutes per match. He tallied six points on the season, fourth-best on the team, with a goal and four assists. Six of his 11 shots were on target and his goal against UAB proved to be the match-winner.
