Angie Nelp Adds Chelsea Dungee to TU Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff

TULSA, Okla. — University of Tulsa Head Coach Angie Nelp has named Chelsea Dungee an assistant coach for the Golden Hurricane women's basketball program.

Dungee, a former Dallas Wings guard and four-year letterwinner at the University of Arkansas, joins Tulsa after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach for Troy University.

Last year, Dungee helped Troy turn a 0-6 start into a 22-12 overall record and 15-3 Sun Belt Conference mark, which included a No. 2 seed in the SBC Tournament, the first-ever postseason victory in program history, a historic run to the WNIT Fab 4 and a league-high three all-conference selections.

In her first season with Troy in 2022-23, Dungee helped Troy evolve into an elite offensive superpower as the only Sun Belt program with four 100-plus point games. The Trojans finished the year ranked first in the league in scoring, rebounding, steals and offensive rebounds. She also coached three players to All-Sun Belt status.

The Dallas Wings drafted Dungee with the fifth overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. The 5-11 guard saw action in 14 games for the Wings during her rookie season. Before being drafted by the Wings, Dungee was a four-year standout at Arkansas, where she was named an AP Third Team All-American her senior season.

In addition to earning All-American honors in 2020-21, Dungee was also dubbed a WBCA All-American, USBWA Third Team All-American and an All-SEC First Team selection. She found her name listed on the Wooden Award Nation Ballot and was an Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Finalist.

Dungee averaged 22.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 32.3 minutes per game during her final season as a Razorback and scored in double figures in all 27 games that season. She had 18 games with 20+ points and four games with 30+ points.

Dungee also holds the Razorbacks' single-season scoring record after tallying 759 points during the 2018-19 campaign. During her four-year career, Dungee scored the most collegiate points of any Razorback Women's Basketball player ever (2,147), and she also holds the program record for most career free throws after making 552 of her attempts.

Her No. 33 Arkansas jersey hangs in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Before her collegiate playing days, Dungee led USA Basketball's U16 squad to a gold medal at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championships.

A native of Sapulpa, Okla., Dungee earned her bachelor's degree in communication from Arkansas in 2020.
