STILLWATER, Okla. — The Tulsa cross country teams completed Oklahoma State's Cowboy Preview Friday morning and got some good looks from multiple Golden Hurricane runners. The 28th-ranked men's team took first over Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, while the women's team placed third, outrunning Oklahoma.
The Tulsa men ended the day with 26 points resulting from second, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth-place finishes. Redshirt junior Shay McEvoy led the way in 14:59.015, 10 seconds ahead of redshirt senior Chris McLeod who took fourth. Fifth place went to sophomore Luke Birdseye at 15:10.915, and redshirt freshman Ben Brown cruised to a 15:12.025 finish for seventh. Reigning AAC Freshman of the Year Charlie Krasnoff rounded out the scoring by navigating the 5k course in 15:12:885 for eighth. Redshirt junior Luke Lambert (9th) and redshirt freshman James Knockton (10th) were the next two off the list.
"It's obviously incredibly early and we had most the guys racing do a workout beforehand, but I was really pleased with what I saw," Head Men's Coach Taylor Gulley said. "The guys worked their way through the field like we planned. They have checked every box I could ask for the first 3 weeks!"
The Tulsa women finished third overall in a pool of four teams. Texas A&M took first with 39th points, and Oklahoma State finished second with 46 points. Tulsa's final tally registered at 60 points, 20 points ahead of fourth-place Oklahoma.
Returning all-conference senior Robyn Kowalski paced the team in 10:46.098, good for eighth overall. Sophomore Amy Morefield (10:46.508) and redshirt senior Chloe Hershenow (10:51.238) placed ninth and 13th, respectively. Heading up the scoring rear was junior Alicen Ashley (10:59.478) in 17th place and redshirt senior Ailey Mitchell (11:08.448) in 23rd.
The Tulsa women's next meet is the J.K. Gold Classic in Wichita, Kan., on Saturday, Sept. 7, while the men's next action is at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Sept. 27.
