WICHITA, Kan. — The Tulsa women's cross country team took care of business at Wichita State's 76th Annual JK Gold Classic, sweeping the top five spots Saturday morning for a perfect 15 points to win the meet by a landslide at the Clapp Cross Country Course.
 
The next closest team was North Texas, who finished 55 points behind Tulsa with 70. Wichita State was close behind with 72 points with Fort Hays State (76 points) and Washburn (172 points) rounding out the top five squads.
 
Redshirt senior Chloe Hershenow led all runners at the event with a 17:16.49 finish on the 5K course. The 2022 AAC Women's Runner of the Year was followed by sophomore Amy Morefield in 17:20.91. Third place went to all-conference senior Robyn Kowalski at 17:22.38. Less than a second after her came redshirt senior Ailey Mitchell (17:22.79), and junior transfer from Tulane Sophia McNerney took fifth in 17:37.01 in her first meet for the Golden Hurricane.
 
The Tulsa women's next meet is Missouri's Gans Creek Classic on Friday, Sept. 27, while the men's cross country team's next action is on that same Friday at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational.
