TULSA, Okla. — The 2024 nonconference slate has come to a finish as Tulsa women's soccer fell in a 2-1 decision to Oklahoma (7-1) at home in the Hurricane Soccer Stadium Sunday night. The Golden Hurricane moves to 4-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 against non-league opponents.

Senior defender Ashlyn Fernandez logged TU's goal in the 34^th minute of the contest. The ball was sent in from the far corner by her teammate Madison Williams, also a senior defender.

Oklahoma's defense and middle kept the ball on Tulsa's side of the field for the majority of the game. As a group, the Sooners shot the ball 18 times and nine times at the net, while Tulsa only had four shots with two on goal. OU also recorded 10 corner kicks to Tulsa's five.

The American Athletic Conference play continues for the Hurricane Thursday, Sept. 19, as Tulsa hosts North Texas (5-2-2, 1-0-0 AAC) at 7 p.m. TU previously fell to Rice in Houston, 1-0, on Thursday.

How it Happened
Oklahoma got on the board within the first five minutes as Sophia Green sent the ball into the net from Ella Pappas in just the fourth minute. Pappas scored the Sooners' second goal on a solo effort just under seven minutes later at 10:02.

Tulsa's only goal of the game came on a corner kick as D Madison Williams sent the ball perfectly into the penalty area to D Ashlyn Fernandez, who sent it into the upper right corner of the net on a header in the 34^th minute.

Neither team scored in the second half as Oklahoma's defense strengthened its grip on the game by not allowing a single Tulsa shot in the final 45 minutes. The final score was 2-1 OU.

OU extends the series lead to 14-2-1.
