Tulsa Falls at Missouri State

9/7/2024 12:12:00 AM | Men's Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A first half goal from the hosts was enough as the Missouri State Bears held off the Golden Hurricane 1-0 in a Friday night soccer match at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.

Tulsa (1-3-0) had seven shots on the night, four coming from Will Applegate, but were unable to force a save out of the Missouri State (2-2-0) goalkeeper, Harry Townsend. The Bears' goal came off the foot of Jesus Barea, who scored his sixth goal of the season. He has put the ball in the net in every match, but did not continue his streak of two games with a brace.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Lopez was back in net for the Golden Hurricane. He made three saves in the contest.

How it Happened
Missouri State scored the game's only goal in the 30th minute. The Bears were quicker to a loose ball in the middle of the pitch, getting it quickly to the near sideline to Dion Ruffo Luci. Luci played it forward down the line to James Jenning, who sprinted down the right wing before laying it across to Jesus Barea, who received the pass in strike around 25 yards away from goal to the right of the penalty arc. Barea took three quick touches, the third setting him on his right foot and creating the space to put a shot to the left of the diving Alex Lopez for a goal.

From there, the Missouri State defense stifled the Golden Hurricane, preventing any shots on target. Tulsa did have four shots, but none of them forced a save from the goalkeeper as the Bears held off the Hurricane 1-0.
