Reiya Komagata Earns AAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas — For his clutch play in two opening-weekend wins for the Golden Hurricane men's tennis team, junior transfer Reiya Komagata is the first American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week of the young spring season. It's the former NJCAA superstar's first award at the Division I level.

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Komagata lifted the Hurricane to a 4-3 win over Arkansas after putting together a three-set winner at Singles No. 5. He took down the Razorbacks' Benni Emesz 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) to cap TU's comeback from down 3-0. All eyes were on Komagta as it was the only match of the day that went to a third set.

Earlier in the weekend, Komagata clinched the doubles point for TU in the season-opener against Omaha with a 6-3 victory in the 3-spot with teammate Will Pellegrini.
