IRVING, Texas — The University of Tulsa's Shay McEvoy of the men's indoor track team has been named the American Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It's the first weekly track and field accolade for the redshirt senior from Kilkenny, Ireland.
Now the owner of Tulsa's eighth all-time weekly indoor award from the American, McEvoy enjoyed a historic mile performance at the Arkansas Invitational Friday, where he finished third in 3:58.48. It went down as Tulsa's eight sub-4-minute indoor mile and the second-fastest mile in program history. The mark stands as the fastest indoor mile ever run by an AAC athlete and currently ranks 21st across all of Division I.
Later in the day, McEvoy grabbed a top 10 finish in the 3,000m, taking sixth in 8:13.46.
