Tulsa Track Finishes Competition at JD Martin Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. – Tulsa track and field turned in a full day of performances across sprints, hurdles and distance events at the 24th annual JD Martin Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma.
Jaylin Vonwald led the way on the women's side with a strong showing in the hurdles and 400 meters. Vonwald placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 59.63 and advanced from the 60-meter hurdles prelims before finishing second in the finals at 9.10. Kennedy Johnson added depth in the 400 meter, placing 19th in 1:04.36, and later competed in the 200 meters. In the women's 800 meters, Kayla Meason finished fifth overall, clocking a 2:29.32. Tulsa also saw a podium finish in the women's 3,000 meters, as Makenzie Crum placed third with a time of 11:24.89.
On the men's side, the Golden Hurricane found success in the middle distances and sprints. Richard Matthews paced the men's 800 meters with a third-place finish in 1:56.44, followed closely by Zach Lewis (1:57.53), Remington Martin (1:58.18) and Karson Pillow (1:58.38). Xander Rhynes added a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 51.82.
In the short sprints, Tyler Priest impressed in the 60 meters, advancing from prelims with a 6.90 and finishing second in the finals with a 6.88. Isabella Famiglietti represented Tulsa in both the prelims and finals of the women's 60 meters, recording a 7.73 in the finals. Jonathan Lee competed in the men's 60 and 200 meters, while Colin Madison turned in a strong hurdles performance, placing third in the men's 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.41.
The Golden Hurricane will continue their indoor season next weekend, traveling to Topeka, Kan., for the Washburn Open on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31.
